CAROLYN A. BOWLES, MD, FACP, ABIHM was born in Washington DC and attended Simmons College where she majored in Physical Therapy. She then attended Boston University Medical School and graduated cum laude and was in the AOA honor society. Her Internal Medicine residency was completed at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY and she went on to complete a fellowship in Rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She was on staff at Mayo for 8 years and then moved to Minneapolis and has worked in various Rheumatology settings since then. About 10 years ago, she developed a passion for Functional Medicine and other Integrative approaches to health and wellness when she felt that a number patient’s needs were not being met by standard approaches.

She has studied Functional Medicine, Acupuncture, Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) therapy and more recently has been interested in genetics and epigenetic influences on genes. She is certified in the Bredesen Protocol (only 500 doctors are currently trained in this) and, also, works with Muses Labs for treatment of subjective cognitive impairment, mild cognitive impairment, and prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease. She is using this cumulative knowledge to help patients develop treatment approaches to their autoimmune and neurodegenerative conditions as well as health and wellness.

Dr. Bowles lives in Minneapolis with her husband. Her interests include reading, hiking, knitting and crafts as well as travel.
